Van completed the AMGA Top Rope Site Manager Course

Van completed an RFR technical rescue training course in Ouray, CO.  The seminar is 7 days in length, and consists of 70+ hours of technical rescue training in various climbing contexts.

Van has climbed all over the United States, including granite cracks in Joshua Tree, sandstone in Red Rocks, alpine rock in the Tetons, slabs in Cochise Stronghold, and all over the southeast, including Whitesides, Looking Glass, Shortoff, Table Rock, the Ampitheater, Wiseman’s View, and Crowder’s Mountain.

Van has worked for Granite Arches since 2006.

He holds a Level I and II avalanche certification from the American Avalanche Institute, and currently works for a local ski patrol.

Van has a Wilderness First Responder through Wilderness Medical Associates, and a Wilderness-Emergency Medical Technician (W-EMT) through the Wilderness Medicine Institute. He is currently working on his EMT-Intermediate level certification

Van has participated in a number of first ascents throughout North Carolina at many well-known climbing areas.
