Alpamayo Expedition
Brief
Description: Our Alpamayo
expedition is between 10 and 14 days long and
is the most physically and mentally
challenging scheduled expedition that we offer. First, we attempt Urus (5400 meters) and/or Ishinka
(5600 meters) for acclimatization purposes. We then attempt one of the
most aesthetic climbs in the mountaineering world, the Italian route on Alpamayo.
This 60 degree, 6000 meter ice pyramid is widely regarded as the most
beautiful mountain in the world. The ascent involves a two day approach
to base camp, one or two nights at intermediate moraine camp, and one or
two nights at high camp above 18,000 feet from which a summit bid is
made.
Dates:
Parties of three or more can
contact Granite Arches with date preferences and arrange a
"scheduled" trip.
Individuals can either schedule their own custom dates, or can
participate in a previously scheduled expedition (see "Dates"
at right). The climbing season for Alpamayo is mid May to mid
August.
